The Lebanese community in Arizona kicked off the month of November with an exciting visit from the Los Angeles Lebanese Consul General, Mr. Johnny Ibrahim. We spent the first Saturday morning at a family owned restaurant to have breakfast with Mr. Ibrahim. The students and alumni of Arizona State University’s Lebanese Student Association were eager to spend some time with a large supporter of the LCN and the Lebanese community as a whole. After satisfying our morning hunger with some much needed breakfast, the conversation with Consul General Ibrahim truly began to take off.
The students, as well as the alumni, presented some important issues that current Lebanese students face. One particular topic hovered around the table, discussing the importance of bringing educated Lebanese graduates back to Lebanon and the Middle East as a whole. It was a relieving to hear Consul General Ibrahim address the issues in a professional manner and explain the current support that is being offered to students within this position. Mr. Ibrahim also mentioned a new, more enthusiastic, approach for sending Lebanese students back to their home country through a beauty pageant hosted by the Consulate General Office. Taken by surprise, the students found this to be a different, yet exciting, advance in celebrating our heritage.
Not only did everybody enjoy meeting the Lebanese Consul General in a comfortable setting, but we all gained some insight about the interesting new ways our government is reaching out to its young professionals. The LCN, as well as the LSA of ASU, are truly grateful for having an inspirational figure, such as Mr. Ibrahim, visit our Lebanese community here in Arizona.
