On December 6th, 2012, I attended my first LCN event, the LCN, NAAP & LA Cedars Rotaract holiday networking mixer, to which I was invited by one of the LCN founders, Sev Sislian. As a relatively newcomer to Los Angeles, I’ve been anxious to get connected and involved in the Lebanese professional community. The event was held at a charming venue called Desert Rose nestled in the heart of Los Feliz. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and, as the evening unfolded, I found myself pleasantly surprised.
I was greeted by warm smiles at the registration desk and immediately taken under the wing of a few LCN members and introduced to friends, family and coworkers. The turnout was impressive as I watched the venue begin to fill up. Later, the organizations held the raffle and announced the winning numbers to prizes like a pearl necklace and gift cards. In talking to several attendees, I noticed that people were coming from very different areas; some journeyed from Orange County while others trekked from the Valley. At that moment, I realized how important these organizations are to unite everyone from all professional backgrounds in one common platform in order to inspire collaboration and community. Towards the end of the night, cards were exchanged and Facebook and LinkedIn friend invites were sent out. Needless to say, I had a great first impression and look forward to furthering my involvement with the LCN!
